We have been told that in order to lose weight, all you have to do is move more and eat less. We have more gyms, Weight loss programs, protein bars, shakes, potions, and even lasers than ever before and yet our waistlines continue to expand here in the United States. Albert Einstein said that his definition of insanity was “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. There has to be a portion of truth to that statement in the weight loss industry because we seem to be doing the same “diets” and “workouts”, slightly repackaged, over and over again and expecting them to work the next time that we do them only to find ourselves back to our original weight or worse yet, a couple of pounds heavier than where we started.

If that’s you, you are not alone. In fact, according to the CDC, 49% of the US adult population (56.4% of women, versus 41.7% of men) is on a “diet” at any given time. What you want to look for is a weight loss program that will help you to lose 2 to 3 pounds per week. That much weight loss is not slow enough to leave you feeling discouraged but also not so fast that you have to starve yourself in order to get your results. Science shows that a crash diet, where one is starving themselves with less than 600 calories a day, will lead to rapid weight loss but may damage the metabolism of the dieter and lead them to gain weight after they go off of the diet.

This can lead to emotional resentment and in many cases cause a person trying to lose weight to abandon their weight loss efforts.
